Hamilton Foundation Funding-Rogers High School Horticulture Program & NIMFEST King Park Music Series

On behalf of the Hamilton Family Foundation, Councilor Kate Leonard has presented two checks to Newport Mayor Harry Winthrop. The foundation has funded the Rogers High School Horticulture Mentoring program for the last twelve years providing students an opportunity to work with master gardeners to learn new skills and also get paid for the experience. Councilor Leonard works with Rogers High School staff to interview applicants and place them with skilled horticulture mentors throughout Newport. Many students have used the opportunity to make horticulture their future careers.

For the tenth year, funding is being provided for the King Park Music Series named NIMFEST or Newport Independent Music Festival. The funds are used to hire local musicians and bands for the Sunday afternoon concerts which are free and open to the public. Kevin and Gianna Sullivan are the volunteer organizers for this summer entertainment series.
