Salute to Summer Concert and Fireworks

The Naval Station Newport Commanding Officer is pleased to announce the annual Salute to Summer concert and fireworks show will be held on the base, August 27. The concert is free and open to the public. Music will feature the music of Beach Boys Tribute Band “The Driftwoods at 5 p.m., followed by a performance by Navy Band Northeast at 7 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m.

Gate One turnstiles, on Training Station Road, will open at 4 p.m. for pedestrian traffic only. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Food and drink concessions will be available for refreshment purchases, and a children’s play area will be available until dusk. Guests should be prepared to present a picture I.D. upon entry to the base.

Prohibited items for the event on the base and at the concert include: coolers, outside food or drink, pets, glass bottles, banners or signs of any type, firearms, forms of defensive sprays or chemicals, illegal drugs or paraphernalia, drones or weapons. Strollers and small bags such as diaper bags, small backpacks or handbags are permitted; however, they will be subject to search.

Vehicles with a Handicapped Parking Permit will be directed to park in the Naval Health Clinic New England (NHCNE) parking lot off of Third Street where there will be a shuttle to the concert site on Dewey Field.

PARKING: Department of Defense (DOD) authorized guests ONLY will be allowed to bring private vehicles onto the installation and can enter Gate One prior to 3:30 p.m. and via Gate 17 following that time – special Aug 27 Gate 17 hours are: 3:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. . Parking is available inside the Naval Health Clinic New England off of Third Street for guests who do not have DOD Identification Cards.

GATE hours for August 27: Gate One will close to all but emergency vehicle traffic at 3:30 p.m. and reopen for inbound and outbound traffic at 11 p.m.; Gate 17: 3:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. for all traffic; Gate 7: Naval Health Clinic New England Gate off of Third Street will open at 3:30 p.m. All vehicles must be out of that compound no later than 11 p.m. following the concert. Gate One turnstiles will open at 4 p.m.
