Strategic planning is the process of defining a strategy and the associated goals and objectives to formulate a plan providing direction for prioritizing and decision-making to effectively allocate personnel and resources. The City of Newport has initiated a strategic planning process to align City services and projects with community needs, building on the current Strategic Plan and updating it for the next three to five years.
The City has retained the firm of Management Partners to provide Strategic Planning Facilitation services. Utilizing information from interviews with councilmembers, feedback from staff, input from the 2015 Citizen Survey and public workshops on the Comprehensive Land Use Plan Update, and public comment from the upcoming community forums, Management Partners will assist the City Council in developing goals and objectives and formulating a Strategic Plan to guide the City in planning, budgeting and resource allocation. Community forums have been scheduled for April 6th and April 20th at 6:30 p.m. at the Pell School, 35 Dexter Street, to obtain public input on this initiative.
