Cliff Walk Undergoing Needed Repairs starting July 5, 2016
Construction is scheduled to begin on the Newport Cliff Walk on July 5th to repair damage from Hurricane Sandy and to make needed safety improvements. While the Cliff Walk will remain open during construction, pedestrians will be detoured to local streets with signage between Narragansett Ave and Webster Street. The 40 Steps restrooms and metered parking along Narragansett Ave shall remain open during construction. During a later phase in the project, pedestrians will be detoured around the Breakers Mansion between Shepard Ave and Ruggles Ave. Funding for the project comes from a National Park Service Hurricane Sandy Relief Grant, administered by R.I. Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission, the RIDOT and the City of Newport. The work is being done by New England Building & Bridge Co., of Greenville RI.
